Capsule Geology

The Timothy anomaly is located south of Timothy Lake and north west of Dempsey Lake.

The area is underlain by porphyritic quartz monzonitic to dioritic intrusive rocks of the Triassic to Jurassic Takomkane Batholith which intrudes andesitic to basaltic volcanic and sedimentary strata of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group. The previous units have been overlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Miocene to Pleistocene Chilcotin Group.

Locally, an intrusive body is inferred to underlie the area south of the east end of Timothy Lake. An area of angular rubble comprising potassic altered syenite to monzonite with chlorite-epidote alteration and chalcopyrite along joint and fracture surfaces contains anomalous copper-gold in soil and float samples associated with an induced polarization anomaly. The anomalous zone is approximately 300 by 400 metres in size.

Angular float samples from the area have yielded up to 0.220 per cent copper, 0.216 gram per tonne gold and 5 grams per tonne silver, while a rock sample taken from an area ‘west of grid 4’ is reported to have yielded 0.137 per cent copper (de Wit, S. (2012-01-23): Technical Report on Exploration Programs and Results on the Timothy Property with Recommendations for Further Exploration).

Work History

In 1982 and 1983, Selco Inc. completed a program of soil sampling, a ground induced polarization survey and two percussion drill holes, totalling 78 metres, on the area as the TY claims. The holes were drilled east of Dempsey Lake but are reported to have not encounter any ‘significant’ copper grades.

In 1990, Armstrong Mountain Gold Corp. completed an 850 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic (VLF) survey on the north side of Timothy Lake.

In 2007 and 2008, Candorado Operating Company Ltd. completed programs of soil and stream sediment sampling on the area.

In 2011, a geophysical survey was conducted to help define the location and extent of the copper-gold porphyry-type mineralization on the Spring Lake and Timothy Lake zones and the area between the two zones. The following conclusions were made: Four first-priority geophysical targets were generated, two on Line 1 at stations 650E (105 metres depth) and 1000E (180 metres depth; Assessment Report 32886).
